The artists of the statue represented the Buddha after reaching enlightenment. The face is serene with a slight smile, which reflects a deep state of inner fulfillment. In this condition, the Buddha belongs more to Nirvana than to the Earth and Thai artists made statues in which this ethereal quality was perfectly represented.
The sculptors have tried to portray through the use of human forms a being that has transcended earthly issues, solving the problem perfectly. Their creations seem to dominate the tumult of human passions and the slight smile speaks to us of the peace and serenity derived from the submission of earthly and primordial instincts. The delicate, parallel and wavy lines of the mouth, base of the nose and eyes emphasize this spirituality.
